Refugee integration refers to the process by which refugees, who have fled their home country due to persecution, war or other forms of conflict, are able to successfully settle and become part of their new community.

This process involves providing refugees with access to basic needs such as shelter, food, healthcare and education, as well as promoting their social, economic and political inclusion through language classes, job training, and cultural orientation. Effective integration also involves the active participation and support of host communities and government, as well as addressing and combating xenophobia, discrimination and racism.

While many citizens may feel that refugees are more bane than boon, we should remember that these people had occupations, skills and lives before their unfortunate circumstance. It was never their choice to leave, the world merely forced their hand.
